Nanya Technology’s Fourth Supply Chain Seminar Accentuates Biodiversity and Net Zero Strategies

In November 2023, the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) published its finalised recommendations. In the same year, Taiwan passed the Climate Change Response to fight against climate change. Moreover, starting from 2026, Taiwan listed companies with capital over NTD 10 billion are required by The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) to adopt the IFRS S1 General Requirements for Disclosure of Sustainability-related Financial Information and the IFRS S2 Climate-related Disclosures. The completion of the recommendations and integration of nature-related impacts with financial performance delineates growing attention to environmental sustainability.

To look into more opportunities and solutions with suppliers, Nanya Technology ("Nanya") hosted the Supply Chain Seminar 2023 with particular focus on biodiversity and net-zero. During the seminar, Nanya's vice president Joseph Wu underlined the Company's supply chain management strategies, followed by informative speeches of keynote speakers. Professor Tsai-Chi Kuo from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology shed a light on the latest development of carbon neutral strategies. Manager Fan-Lun Chen from the Industrial Technology Research Institute shared insights on digital carbon management and reduction. Dr. Hong-Wei Huang of National Taipei University of Technology highlighted the significance of biodiversity by analysing TNFD recommendations.

"The Company's goal for carbon reduction, approved by SBTi, is to reduce 25% of CO2e emission by 2030 compared with 2020," Nanya's President, Dr. Pei-Ing Lee said, "In 2023, renewable energy account for 3% of our total energy consumption, which is equivalent to 25 million kWh. In 2024, the number will increase to 7%, and we will publish our first report integrating TNFD and TCFD disclosures." He then elaborates that that participation of suppliers is indispensable to achieve these ambitious goals, for which reason Nanya regularly hosts supplier seminars to raise awareness in sustainability, including latest trends and regulations.

In addition to supplier risk assessment, audits and corrective action plans, Nanya also leads a DRAM supply chain cardon reduction project approved by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. Woking with 10 suppliers across packaging and testing, wafer manufacturing, chemicals and gases, and consumables, we assist suppliers to turn production process greener. With a target to reduce CO2e by 6300 tons in 2 years, The project is expected to achieve carbon footprint calculation of 15 products, set-up digital verification and online carbon assessment platform, and implement solutions for decarbonization.
