","en":"Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") released its Sustainability Report 2023 today to disclose its performance of corporate sustainability, which took innovation, green manufacturing and talent engagement as the main areas of focus. Innovation serves as the core element for Nanya's sustainability while driving corporate growth. The Company has successfully developed the second generation 10nm-class (1B) process technology and set for 8Gb DDR4 and 16Gb DDR5 products shipment in the second half of 2024.
Regarding green manufacturing, Nanya's energy-saving products accounted for 90% of its shipment, helping its customers save more than 514.15 million kWh of electricity in the year. In addition, the Company implemented 36 conservation projects to save more than 5,337 MWh of electricity in 2023. To optimize the use of renewable energy, approximately 24,490 MWh of solar power was used in 2023.
Nanya adopted the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) standards since 2023 and obtained AWS Platinum Certification in 2024. In accordance with the AWS requirement, The Company enhanced the water resources management from aspects including water governance and sustainable water balance. Based on the environmental management and operational risk management framework, the company regularly reviews risks, promotes improvement measures, and contingencies on a quarterly basis. In 2023, Nanya implemented 6 water-saving plans that reduced water consumption per product by 32%, and assisted 9 suppliers to unroll water conservation projects.
Nanya is committed to promote the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) in the workplace. The Company has launched internal seminars and workshops to raise DE&I awareness of our employees. We also organize events with educational institutions to encourage a culture of diversity and equality for the pipeline of next generation. To build a responsible supply chain, the Company investigated and audited suppliers on human rights risks and conflict minerals usage to ensure compliance with the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) requirements. The Company is awarded the platinum certification from RBA VAP.

During the past decade, Nanya keeps collecting the data from monitoring the biophysical environment around its fabs, including air quality, underground water and surrounding ecosystem. The Company adopted the LEAP methodology (Locate, Evaluate, Assess, Prepare) since 2023 to better prepare for nature-related risk management. Nanya set 2018 as the base year to adopt internal carbon pricing and has used 24,490MWh of solar power in 2023. In 2024, Nanya has signed a purchase agreement for additional 25,000 MWh of solar power per annum.
As semiconductor companies rely heavily on water and electricity supply, Nanya seeks to strengthen resilience during natural disruptions and recovery and reduce the level of dependency on natural resources. In addition to partnering with companies nearby to set up a water shortage taskforce, it has completed 7 water reduction projects in 2023 to reduce 567,925 tons of water per year. From 2019 to 2023, Nanya has invested more than NT$196 million to conduct 148 energy-saving projects, which saved 53,887MWh of electricity per year.

To look into more opportunities and solutions with suppliers, Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") hosted the Supply Chain Seminar 2023 with particular focus on biodiversity and net-zero. During the seminar, Nanya's vice president Joseph Wu underlined the Company's supply chain management strategies, followed by informative speeches of keynote speakers. Professor Tsai-Chi Kuo from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology shed a light on the latest development of carbon neutral strategies. In addition to supplier risk assessment, audits and corrective action plans, Nanya also leads a DRAM supply chain cardon reduction project approved by Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs. Woking with 10 suppliers across packaging and testing, wafer manufacturing, chemicals and gases, and consumables, we assist suppliers to turn production process greener. With a target to reduce CO2e by 6300 tons in 2 years, The project is expected to achieve carbon footprint calculation of 15 products, set-up digital verification and online carbon assessment platform, and implement solutions for decarbonization.

As the awareness of conflict minerals grows with more prominence, the defined minerals extends to cobalt and mica. In 2010, the U.S. Congress passed the Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (DFA), requiring US-listed companies to disclose the source of the 3TG they use. In 2017, EU enacted the Conflict Minerals Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2017/821). Since then, importers of 3TG minerals in EU are obliged to comply with the OECD due diligence guidance.
● Due diligence: Establish and perform due diligence process. Companies may follow OECD’s guidance and the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template by RMI to verify suppliers and smelters. RMI has also introduced the Extended Minerals Reporting Template to include cobalt and mica.
● Assurance: Companies and suppliers may apply for the Responsible Minerals Assurance Process of RMI to conduct independent, third-party audits, making sure their smelters and refiners meet global standards for non-conflict minerals.

循環經濟立基於三大原則*%減少廢棄物與污染、產品與物料循環再生、重建自然資本。從產品的角度來看，即是從研發設計開始，就以廢棄物與污染最少化為考量來開發產品，進入製程則力求更節能、對環境更友善，並將原為廢棄物的資源再次利用、提升價值，盡可能延長使用資源的生命週期。
南亞科技採用生命週期評估工具Simapro進行100%生命週期評估 (Life Cycle Assessment, LCA)，計算產品環境足跡並找出改善方針。以公司主要產品型號為例，溫室效應主要來自製造階段 (83.8%)，購買之原物料產生約佔 16.2%。對此，我們積極自主研發先進製程，並導入 AI 應用與智慧製造，在製程端提升產能來降低能耗與物料消耗，也致力提供新世代記憶體，協助客戶打造能耗更低、效能更優異的終端產品。舉例來說，DDR5相較於DDR4，平均功率約下降了 16%，但頻寬可提升兩倍。
在能源方面，南亞科於2022年簽訂10年期2.5億度太陽能場域合約，2023年規劃再採購10年期2.5億度再生能源，逐步替代大量產出汙染物的傳統能源。除此之外，半導體廠一向為用水大戶，而南亞科2022年製程水回收率達 92.9%，含銅廢水更在回收後再製為精緻銅禮品，大幅提升價值**。

From 17th Sep. 2023 to 14th April 2024, the Formosa Plastics Group Museum delves into circular economy with an ESG special exhibition. As part of the exhibition, Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") showcases the lifecycle of DRAM production in a new light by sharing its multifaceted effort to make the product greener with proactivity.
Circular economy, though typically associated with material circularity, also mobilises two other important principles*, i.e. deduction of waste and pollution, and regeneration of nature. From a product-oriented perspective, circular economy starts from the very beginning of product development as the design should bear the aim to minimise waste and pollution. Entering into production, the products are manufactured in a more environment-friendly and energy-saving way. In the end, the waste may be reused or recycled to extend the materials’ lifecycle.
Nanya adopts the tool Simapro to conduct product lifecycle assessment and calculate the environmental footprint. For example, the greenhouse effect of Nanya's main product model is predominantly induced by the manufacturing process (83.8%), followed by procured materials (16.2%). Identifying production process as the main target for improvement, Nanya strives to enhance energy and material efficiency by investing in innovation to develop advanced process and adopting AI technologies and smart manufacturing.
Our dedication in delivering new generations of DRAM products with advanced technologies not only reduces resource consumption, but will also optimise the end products that are more energy efficient with better performance. For example, compared with DDR4, DDR5 products can deliver doubled bandwidth with 16% decrease in average power.
With an aim to replace traditional energy that produces massive pollutants with renewable energy, we have signed a 10-year contract in 2022 to purchase 250 million kWh of solar power. The plan to purchase another 250 million kWh of renewable energy is under assessment in 2023. To tackle the problem of water intensiveness, Nanya has managed to reach 92.9% of water recycle rate from the manufacturing process in 2022. The copper recycled from the wastewater was even reprocessed into our high-end corporate gift, creating a considerable increase in value**.

Talent is an important drive for innovation of a company, which is particularly true for knowledge intensive industries such as semiconductor. Cultivating and retaining talent has become a core strategic consideration for companies in pursuit of sustainable growth in this competitive environment. As the modes of working become more diversified in recent years, remuneration and promotion are no longer the only factors influencing career planning and work performance. It is thus important for companies to provide a workplace that creates a sense of belonging.
Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") believes that the balance between career development and life is key to retaining talents with better performance. In addition to building an inclusive and supportive workplace with actions, we also review our performance with the Employee Engagement Survey. Surveyed items include: work performance review, engagement with line manager, understanding of corporate vision & culture, performance of the management team, relationship with peers, satisfaction with promotion opportunities and remuneration. The result in 2022 indicates that 76.2% of the staff reaches an average satisfaction score of 7 out of 10. The number increases by 4.2% compared to 72% of 2021, indicating a new height in employee’s satisfaction of the company’s talent management efforts (please refer to the table below).
Nanya’s Human Resource Director Chang Chih Hsieh says that the Company endeavors to create a workplace that is more inclusive and supportive. For example, it encourages work-life balance by providing an entire floor of professional sports space and funding charitable activities. In addition, the company also provides a variety of courses for professional development and the Buddy Program for new employees, who are guided by senior peers for smoother on-boarding process. 南亞科技為推廣循環經濟，延續產學永續專案主軸，與明志科技大學-工業設計系共同舉辦「共銅創藝」設計競賽，以廠內製程水循環再生的「廢銅」為競賽的設計素材，結合SDGs永續議題及設計思考研究模式，引導學生發揮創意，將廢銅轉化成鏈結環境永續的作品。
自「共銅創藝」專案啟動，南亞科技即參與課程並進行影片側錄，「改變，從翻轉廢銅開始」影片訴說著廢銅箔的變身之旅，從銅箔的電解過程出發，永續課程導入為學生建立永續素養，以設計思考激發創意靈感，到最後歷經3,528小時的努力淬鍊，廢棄銅箔變身為53件鏈結環境永續的創意作品。「改變，從翻轉廢銅開始」影片不僅傳達南亞科技的永續理念，也透過最真實的鏡頭語言，讓改變被更多人看見，擴散企業的永續影響力。

Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") receives the bronze award at the Taipei Golden Eagle Micro-Movie Festival 2023 with its documentary short film \"Ways to Recycle Scrap Copper.\" The documentary narrates the process of turning the copper extracted from wastewater into artworks, which is the project called \"Copper Together\" collaborated by Nanya and Ming Chi University of Technology (MCUT).
Dedicated to sustainability, Nanya puts much focus on the younger generation, which results in a solid partnership with MCUT. Nanya and MCUT has launched a three-year course \"Design Thinking, Creative Integration\" since 2022, which contemplates sustainability from the perspectives of design, creativity, and ethics.
Continuing the momentum, Nanya and MCUT co-organises the Copper Together Contest. The project includes sustainability lectures and a design contest, requiring students to combine their design work with ESG-related ideas and use scrap copper as design material. With particular focus on circular economy, the project enables students to integrate their creations with various aspects of UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
The 3,528 hours of efforts, from copper electrolysis, lectures, brainstorming to the realisation of 53 creative artworks, have been recorded as a documentary short film and awarded bronze at Taipei Golden Eagle Micro-Movie Festival 2023.

On the event, the two documentaries screened, The Empire of Red Gold and Genetically Modified Children, reveal how free trade delivers low-priced products at the cost of environment, labour safety and human rights. In the post-movie panel discussion, Nanya shares that its actions of supporting fair trade are out of particular attention to labour rights and SDGs. On the day of event, Nanya also hosts the SDGs quiz game for parents and children to explore the realm of sustainability together.
Fair trade aims to provide decent working conditions for farmers and workers in developing countries through a more just way of pricing and trade. The cause corresponds to various aspects of SDGs, including ending poverty, eliminating hunger, and ensuring responsible consumption and production patterns.
Working with one of the largest global sustainability movements, which gives the voice back to workers and producers, Nanya is inviting the public to rethink trade justice and take actions for a more responsible way of consumption. Nanya Technology (\"Nanya\") has been supporting the Earth Hour Initiative for 6 consecutive years by turning off lights for an hour on the last Saturday of March to raise awareness of climate change. From 2021, Nanya takes a step further to invite suppliers and partners to participate, joined by 50 of them in 2021 and 62 in 2022.
In 2023, Nanya integrated Earth Hour and Earth Day and organised a series of events, including lights off campaign and ecological conservation activities. In addition to our suppliers, members of the Semiconductor Climate Consortium (SCC) of SEMI also pitched in to enlarge the influence on the value chain. In total, the lights off campaign 2023 were joined by more than 10 SCC members and 56 suppliers.
The success also serves as a milestone of Nanya's continuous communication with the suppliers in various forms. From 2020, Nanya started the Sustainable Supply Chain Seminar, which, as of 2022, has been held for three consecutive years. In 2022, Terry Tsao, president of SEMI, Taiwan, was invited to share insights on delivering net zero supply chains in semiconductor industry. At the event, many suppliers also pledged to improve labour rights and take actions against climate change bysigning Nanya's Sustainable Development Mutual Benefit Initiative.
Through continuous communication and providing a platform for information exchange, Nanya aims to enable reciprocal actions in collaboration with its partners. Supporting by collective resources and efforts, we look forward to working with our supply chain to realise a net zero future.

In 2022, we built a fair trade demonstration pantry, looking forward to extending the concept of fair trade to our guests and visitors through the space, and changing the world by changing consumption. This fair trade pantry project has been recognized as the best practice by the Fairtrade Taiwan. A series of fair trade activities were held in order to deepen employee’s understanding of fair trade concept and Nanya’s ESG mission. On October 20, we invited Fairtrade Taiwan and Okogreen to the company to share the ideas of fair trade and SDGs, and how Nanya Technology implemented the ideas with its ESG goals. A fair trade market was held on October 21, we invited fair trade merchants and local farmers to the company to promote products and fair trade initiatives, so that employees can better understand the concept of fair trade while spending happily. 小花蔓澤蘭的藤蔓擴展快速，最快一天可以成長24公分，使植物無法行光合作用，形同以勒斃手法讓林木不敵藤蔓入侵，終以枯萎凋敝作結，俗稱為「綠癌」。其造成的危害會破壞林地、棲地的異質多樣性，變為均質單一性。所以它也被國際自然保育聯盟(IUCN)列為世界百大外來侵入種！目前移除它的最佳方式只能徒手拔除。
為拯救山林並得以喘息，南亞科技與荒野保護協會合作，今年8月21日號召志工們帶著家中小朋友一同前往五股溼地，無懼夏日炎炎以及節節飆高的體感溫度，捲起袖子來移除小花蔓澤蘭。當天一共拔除了141.2公斤的小花蔓澤蘭。
南亞科技自2018年以來就和荒野協會合作，透過各種環境保育活動的規劃為鄰近五股溼地的生態養護盡心力。2020年起擴大響應「為淡水河做一件事」之議題，規劃移除外來種活動、淨灘、淨山等。

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the plant in the 100 of the World's Worst Invasive Alien Species. On 21st August, 2022, Nanya called on passionate employees to protect local environments under the lead of the Society of Wilderness. They removed the alien species of Mikania micrantha at the Wugu Wetland while sweating under the scorching sun. A total of 141.2kg of Mikania micrantha was removed after a half-day effort.
Since 2018, Nanya Technology has cooperated with Society of Wilderness to protect the nearby Wugu Wetland through the planning of various environmental conservation activities.

\"Nanya Technology recognizes and supports the iDBET project. The project combines the resources from industries, universities, and research institutions and implement national industry-university programs to cultivate students to meet the needs of the industry. In respond to iDBET, Nanya has arranged for hundreds of students to visit the company in the past two years. Last year, Nanya together with several memory companies to hold a lecture on \"The Future Development of the Memory Industry\" for students to promote the development of the semiconductor industry.

In the fair trade pantry, environmentally friendly plastic plywood is used to build cabinets, and the walls are painted with water-based cement paints that have obtained environmental protection labels and healthy green building materials. To protect our planet, Nanya has called out to our suppliers to join this advocacy project, Earth Hour, and 54 corporates responded. Earth Hour is an annual global campaign to show support for environmentally sustainable actions to combat climate change. Nanya has been supporting this event since 2018 and calls out to our suppliers to join us. It is a call to take responsibility for our environmental impact and join a growing international community who are committed to leading global environmental change.
Nanya continues putting efforts into sustainable development and environmental protection. This year we announced a 10-year renewable energy purchase agreement that will supply 250 million kWh of solar energy in total. A step forward to our goal of Net Zero emission.
Nanya will continue to act green and work hand in hand with suppliers to drive a sustainable supply chain for a better future.

南亞科技號召企業夥伴，與我們一同加入響應「Earth Hour 60+」倡議，共54家企業夥伴一同響應。Earth Hour 60+為全球最大自發性公益減碳行動，藉由關燈行動呼籲民眾正視氣候變遷議題。南亞科技自2018年起已經連續5年響應此倡議，今年度期望企業夥伴們與我們一起讓世界變得更好。
南亞科技持續進行綠色行動，2022年除了贊助Earth Hour主辦單位關燈一小時活動外，也於南亞科技FB社群網頁邀請同仁共同響應，觸及率達4,563人數；互動達2,070人次。經台電統計活動當日，全台節電量約11.4萬度，等同減少約57,228公斤的二氧化碳排放。本公司也在今年(2022)年度2月份簽署十年綠電採購協議，購買總量達2.5億度再生能源電力，積極推動綠色生產，朝淨零碳排目標邁進。

「地球一小時60+」是由「世界自然基金會」(WWF)所發起的全球性節能活動。提倡於每年三月的最後一個星期六當地時間晚上二十時三十分，號召家庭及商界用戶關上不必要的電燈及耗電產品一小時。希望藉此活動推動電源管理，減少能源消耗，喚起人們以實際行動對應全球暖化的意識。
